ΕΘΙΜΑ – ΕΟΡΤΑΣΜΟΙ / CUSTOMS – CELEBRATIONS
Την 9η Μαΐου γιορτάσαμε την έναρξη της νέας διδακτικής χρονιάς με ζωντανή μουσική από τη μπάντα «Η παρέα μας», που φέτος συμπληρώνει 25 χρόν
ια εμφανίσεων στο Ίδρυμα. Η διευθύντριά μας, κα Soraya Ochoviet, τους απένειμε αναμνηστικό σε αναγνώριση των μουσικών στιγμών που έχουν μοιραστεί μαζί μας, αλλά και των ευκαιριών για χορό που μας 
έχουν προσφέρει όλα αυτά τα χρόνια.
On May 9th, we celebrated the start of the new school year with live music from the band «I parea mas», which completes 25 years of performances at the Foundation. Our Director, Ms. Soraya Ochoviet, presented the band with a souvenir in recognition of the music they have shared with us and the dance opportunities they have offered us over the years.
ΚΑΛΛΙΤΕΧΝΙΚΕΣ ΕΚΔΗΛΩΣΕΙΣ / ARTISTIC EVENTS
Τους θαμώνες της καφετέριας “Μαστίχα” του Ιδρύματος ξάφνιασε ευχάριστα με το μπουζούκι του ο κ. Χριστόδουλος Καλαφάτης το απόγευμα της 8ηςΑπριλίου. Οι μαθητές μας απόλαυσαν τον καφέ τους και ελληνικά γλυκά συνοδεία έντεχνων διπλοπενιών.
During the afternoon of April 8th, Mr. Cristobal Kalafatis and his bouzouki kept us company at the Foundation’s cafeteria “Mastiha”. The students were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed their coffee and Greek desserts, accompanied by Greek popular music.
Με όμορφη μουσική και φιλική ατμόσφαιρα γιορτάσαμε και την 26η Μαΐου, την Εθνική Ημέρα Βιβλίου της Ουρουγουάης, αφιερωμένης 
στην πρώτη δημόσια βιβλιοθήκη της χώρας. Οι μελωδίες του μπουζουκιού πλημμύρισαν τη κατάμεστη βιβλιοθήκη μας, γεμίζοντάς τη με μαθητές που ήρθαν να απολαύσουν την πέννα του κ. Χριστόδουλου.
On May 26th, we celebrated Uruguay’s National Book Day, dedicated to the country’s first public library, with Greek popular music and a gathering, held in a convivial atmosphere. The melodies of the bouzouki filled our library, crowding it with students who came to celebrate the day and enjoy the musical skills of Mr. Kalafatis.
ΠΟΛΙΤΙΣΤΙΚΕΣ – ΕΚΠΑΙΔΕΥΤΙΚΕΣ ΔΡΑΣΕΙΣ / CULTURAL – EDUCATIONAL ACTIONS
Τον Απρίλιο εμπλουτίσαμε το εβδομαδιαίο μας πρόγραμμα με δύο καινούρια μαθήματα: το εργαστήρι “Τα ελληνικά, μέσα από τραγούδια” της καθ. Alice Méndez, καθώς και το μάθημα “Αρχαίο ελληνικό θέατρο” του καθ. Carlos Marenales.
During the month of April, we enriched our weekly programme with two new annual courses: the workshop, «Greek through songs», by Prof. Alice Méndez, and the course, «Ancient Greek Theatre», by Prof. Carlos Marenales.
Η συνεργασία με το Ελληνικό Ανοιχτό Πανεπιστήμιο συνεχίζεται με επιτυχία και το 2025, προωθώντας τηγλωσσική ανταλλαγή μεταξύ μαθητών και φοιτητών μέσω διαδικτυακών συναντήσεων. Την 5η Μαΐου πραγματοποιήσαμε τηλεδιάσκεψη με τους νέους ενδιαφερόμενους για συμμετοχή στο εν λόγω πρόγραμμα.
The co-operation with the Hellenic Open University continues successfully in 2025, promoting language exchange between students of both educational institutions via online meetings. On May 5th we held a teleconference with new students interested in participating in this programme.
Ο ενθουσιώδης δάσκαλος κ. Αντώνης Γεωργιάδης, εν όψει μιας ταξιδιωτικής περιήγησης στη Νότια Αμερική, προσφέρθηκε να παρουσιάσει στο Ίδρυμα την ομιλία “Νόστος, μια πρόταση ανάγνωσης των ομηρικών επών”. Η ομιλία, που έγινε την 23η Απριλίου εξ ολοκλήρου στα ελληνικά, απευθυνόμενη στους προχωρημένους χρήστες της γλώσσας, είχε πολύ θετική απήχηση και άνοιξε τον δρόμο για μελοντικές συνεργασίες. Ο κ. Γεωργιάδης, επισκέφθηκε πολλές τάξεις και παρακολούθησε τα μαθήματά μας, προκειμένου να κατανοήσει το επίπεδο γνώσεων και να συζητήσει με καθηγητές και μαθητές.
Teacher Mr. Antonis Georgiadis, whilst on a tour in South America, offered to present the talk, «Nostos, a proposal for reading the Homeric epics», at the Foundation. The talk, which was given in Greek for the benefit of our advanced students on April 23rd, was very well received and paved the way for future collaborations. Mr. Antonis also visited many of our classes to meet and discuss with teachers and students alike.
Η διευθύντρια του Ιδρύματος κα Soraya Ochoviet και η μαθήτριά μας και καθηγήτρια ισπανικής γλώσσας, κα Gladys Valetta, έδωσαν την 23η Μαΐου τηνεπιτυχημένη ομιλία: “Το ‘h’ δεν ακούγεται, αλλά είναι ξακουστό”. Το γράμμα «h», η ιστορία του οποίου χάνεται στους αιώνες, προσφέρεται, όπως αποδείχτηκε, για ενδιαφέρουσες συζητήσεις.
The Foundation’s Director Ms. Soraya Ochoviet and the Spanish language professor, Ms. Gladys Valetta, gave a presentation on May 23rd: «The H doesn’t sound, but it’s something to talk about». The history of the letter H has been lost over the centuries; however, it lends itself to interesting discussions.
Από την 26η Μαΐου ξεκινήσαμε την «Πρόκληση Ανάγνωσης» για τρίτη χρονιά, με τους συμμετέχοντες να διαβάζουν 6 βιβλία από συγκεκριμένα συγγραφικά είδη σε 6 μήνες, τα οποία επιλέγουν υπό την καθοδήγηση της βιβλιοθηκαρίου μας, κα Florencia Gutiérrez.
Since May 26th, we have launched the «Reading Challenge» for third year, with participants required to read 6 books from specific genres over 6 months, guided by our librarian, Ms. Florencia Gutiérrez.
Το Ίδρυμα συμμετείχε και φέτος στη διοργάνωση του Φεστιβάλ ΛΕΑ “Λογοτεχνία εν Αθήναις”, που πραγματοποιήθηκε από τη 12η μέχρι την 22α Ιουνίου
στην Αθήνα. Αυτή η μεγάλη γιορτή των Ελληνο-Ιβηροαμερικανικών γραμμάτων και τεχνών προσελκύει κάθε χρόνο χιλιάδες επισκέπτες. O κ. Δημήτρης Φιλιππής, καθηγητής του Ελληνικού Ανοιχτού Πανεπιστημίου, παρουσίασε στο «Μέγαρο Μακεδονία» το διαδικτυακό περιοδικό Tribuna Abierta de Estudios Hispano-helenos του Ε.Α.Π. Στη συνέχεια, ο ποιητής, φίλος Ναύαρχος Ε.Α. κ. Κωνσταντίνος Καταγάς και ο μεταφραστής κ. Pedro Olalla παρουσίασαν τις μεταφράσεις των βιβλίων “Από τον Ήλιο ως τον Θουκυδίδη” του κ. Καταγά και το “Βιβλίο του Λυκόφωτος” του Pablo Neruda.
Once again, the Foundation co-organized the festival “Literature in Athens” (LEA), which took place in Athens from 12th to 22nd June. This great celebration of Greek-Iberoamerican letters and arts draws thousands of visitors every year. Mr. Dimitris Filippis, professor at the Hellenic Open University, presented the e-magazine “Tribuna abierta de estudios hispano-helenos” of the University’s Faculty of Humanities during the LEA Festival at Megaron Makedonia. Following this, Mr. Pedro Olalla and retired Admiral, friend and poet Mr. Konstantinos Katagas presented translations of the books, “From the Sun to Thucydides” by Mr. Katagas and “Book of Twilight” by Pablo Neruda.
Την 25η Ιουνίου, το Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος» και η Ελληνική Κοινότητα προκήρυξαν δύο διαγωνισμούς: τον εικαστικό διαγωνισμό για ενηλίκους «Η Δημοκρατία μας εμπνέει», με την ευκαιρία της ουρουγουανικής επετείου από τη λήξη της δικτατορίας, καθώς και τον οπτικοακουστικό διαγωνισμό για παιδιά και εφήβο
υς «Θεοδωράκης-Χατζηδάκις», στο πλαίσιο της 100ης επετείου από τη γέννηση των μεγάλων αυτών Ελλήνων μουσικών.
On June 25th, the Maria Tsakos Foundation and the Hellenic Community launched two competitions: the artcompetition for adults, «Our Democracy Inspires», on the Uruguayan anniversary commemorating the end of the dictatorship, and the audiovisual competition for children and youth, «Theodorakis-Hatzidakis», in context of the 100th anniversary of the birth of these great Greek composers.
EUNIC ΜONTEVIDEO
Τη 19η Ιουνίου έλαβε χώρα η έναρξη του Κύκλου EUNIC Ευρωπαϊκού Κινηματογράφου, που διοργανώνουμε με το τοπικό παράρτημα της EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) και θα ολοκληρωθεί τον Αύγουστο. Το φετινό θέμα του Κύκλου είναι “40 Χρόνια Δημοκρατίας”, με την ευκαιρία της ουρουγουανικής επετείου από τη λήξη της δικτατορίας, και οι ευρωπαϊκές ταινίες προβάλλονται στην αίθουσα προβολής του Πολιτιστικού Κέντρου της Ισπανίας.
The “EUNIC European Film Cycle”, which we organize together with the member institutes of EUNIC Montevideo (EU National Institutes for Culture), was launched on June 19th and conclude in August. This year’s theme is «40 Years of Democracy», to commemorate the Uruguayan anniversary of the end of the dictatorship. These European films are projected in the cinema of the Spanish Cultural Centre.
ΕΚΔΡΟΜΕΣ / EXCURSIONS
Το Σαββατοκύριακο 5 και 6 Απριλίου, οι καθηγητές του Ιδρύματος εκδράμαμε στη φάρμα “Orembaé” του Καπετάν Π. Ν. Τσάκου. Απολαύσαμε τον 
φθινοπωρινή καιρό με περιπάτους, συζητήσεις, ιστορίες, γέλια, αναμμένο τζάκι, επιτραπέζια παιχνίδια και ένα παραδοσιακό asado, πριν επιστρέψουμε ανανεωμένοι στην πρωτεύουσα.
During the weekend of April 5th and 6th, teachers from the Foundation went on an excursion to the “Orembaé” farm of Captain Panagiotis Tsakos. They enjoyed the autumn weather with walks, conversations, stories, laughter around a big fireplace and tasted a traditional “asado”, before returning refreshed to the capital of Montevideo.
